Name:Finwë Ñolofinwë (known as Fingolfin)
From the introduction of The Children of Húrin:
Thus when Fingolfin, High King of the Noldorin Elves, rode alone to Angband to challenge Morgoth to combat, he cried at the gate: 'Come forth, thou coward king, to fight with thineown hand! Den-dweller, wielder of thralls, liar and lurker, foe of Gods and Elves, com! For I would see thy craven face.' Then (it is told) 'Morgoth came. For he could not refuse such a challenge before the face of his captains.' He fought with the great hammer Grond, which at each blow made a great pit, and he beat Fingolfin to the ground; but as he died he pinned the great foot of Morgoth to the earth, 'and black blood gushed forth and filled the pits of Grond. Morgoth went halt thereafter.'

Fingolfin was a High King of the Noldor in Beleriand, second eldest son of Finwë, full brother of Finarfin, and half-brother of Fëanor, who was the eldest of Finwë's sons. His mother was Indis. He founded the House of Fingolfin which ruled the Noldor in Middle-earth. His (wife was Anairë and his) children were Fingon, Turgon, and Aredhel (and Argon). Fingolfin was said to be the strongest, most steadfast, and most valiant of Finwë's sons, and some have named him the greatest warrior of all the Children of Ilúvatar.

( From the wiki entry on Fingolfin, though the brackets are put in by us to indicate items which are not in the published Silmarillion. )

Noldor King from FA 1 to FA 455. In The Peoples of Middle Earth, the name Fingolfin is a contraction of Finwë Ñolofinwë adapted to the sounds of Sindarin. The meaning would be 'Finwë, wise Finwë'.

Father of several very naughty children. Owner of the Loud Voice™. High King of the Noldor.
